Dr Samantha Tay

Medical Director

"Most men come to us after they have either stopped finasteride because of side effects, or refused it from the start. My role is not to push another drug. It is to design a protocol around your scalp, your stage of hair loss, and what you are willing to stick to for the next 12 months."

MBBS graduate (2013) with a surgical training background. Dr Samantha assesses each case individually. She will tell you directly if you are not a candidate for the Calecim protocol and what alternatives make more sense for your stage of hair loss.

The part men don't bring up until the crown is already thinning.

Most men notice hair loss years before they act on it. By the time they walk into a consultation, the part has widened, the temples have crept back, and they have quietly tried most of the over-the-counter options.

Widening part and visible scalp in mirror lighting

You see more scalp in photos

Meeting-room lighting and bathroom mirrors give the real picture. The part has widened, and you notice it in every photo taken from above.

Finasteride tablet and decision to stop taking it

You tried finasteride. You stopped.

Sexual side effects, mood changes, or the idea of a daily systemic hormone blocker for the rest of your life pushed you off the medication.

Minoxidil foam bottle and scalp irritation

Minoxidil didn't stick

Twice-a-day foam for life. Scalp irritation. The shedding phase no one warned you about. You are looking for a protocol you can actually maintain.

Hair transplant surgical setting viewed cautiously

A transplant feels too final

You are not ready for FUE surgery. You want a middle path that buys time and supports what is still there, without incisions or scarring risk.

A protocol built around growth factors, not drugs.

Calecim Advanced Hair System is a cell-free regenerative protocol. The active ingredient, PTT-6, is a proprietary extract from the umbilical cord lining of ethically-sourced New Zealand red deer. It contains mesenchymal stem cell-derived proteins, exosomes, and growth factors (VEGF, FGF, PDGF, IGF, HGF) that play documented roles in the hair growth cycle.

Why Men Choose It

  • Non-hormonal. Does not block DHT
  • Drug-free. No daily pill or foam to maintain for life
  • Non-surgical. No transplant, no incisions, no downtime
  • Doctor-led. Assessed and administered by an MOH-registered doctor
  • No published systemic side effects to date

The Three-Step Session

  • Microneedling to deliver serum to the follicular level
  • Topical PTT-6 growth factor serum applied directly
  • Red light therapy (LLLT), which has independent RCT evidence for androgenetic alopecia
  • Sessions every 2 weeks in the intensive phase
  • From S$299 per session

What is Calecim, in plain English?

Calecim is a Singapore-developed regenerative serum made from proteins and growth factors derived from mesenchymal stem cells. It is not a stem cell injection. What goes on your scalp is the biochemical signal those cells naturally release (growth factors, cytokines, and exosomes), delivered through microneedling.

01

The Signal

PTT-6 contains VEGF, FGF, PDGF, IGF, and HGF. These are the same growth factors your follicles rely on during a healthy hair cycle.

02

The Delivery

Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the scalp so the serum reaches the follicular level, not just the skin surface.

03

The Environment

Exosomes in the serum have been shown in laboratory studies to reduce inflammatory markers in skin cells, supporting a calmer scalp environment.

Not sure if Calecim is the right protocol for your stage?

A 6-month protocol, not a quick fix.

From S$299

Per session. T&Cs apply. Full programme cost reviewed at consultation.

01 / Consultation

Consultation

Dr Sam assesses your hair loss stage, scalp condition, and prior treatments. Not everyone is a candidate. She will tell you directly if the protocol is not the right fit.

02 / Intensive Phase (Month 1 to 3)

Intensive Phase

Sessions every 2 weeks, 6 sessions total. Most of the follicle stimulation work happens in this window. Microneedling, PTT-6 serum, and red light therapy per session.

03 / Review (Month 4 onwards)

Review and Maintenance

Sessions taper as your scalp response stabilises. At month 6, an honest review with Dr Sam. If the protocol is working for you, we discuss maintenance. If not, we discuss alternatives.

Individual responses vary. Calecim is not a guaranteed regrowth treatment. Peer-reviewed evidence for Calecim specifically is currently limited to case-report-level data for telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia. Large randomised trials for male pattern baldness have not yet been published. Finasteride and minoxidil remain the treatments with the most RCT evidence for male pattern hair loss.

Every option for male hair loss has a trade-off. Here is where Calecim fits.

This comparison describes treatment methods, not relative clinical superiority. Each option has its place. Calecim is a cosmeceutical regenerative protocol, not a replacement for medical treatments where those are clinically indicated.

Finasteride (oral)

Blocks DHT hormone conversion. Strong RCT evidence for male pattern baldness. Daily tablet indefinitely. Published side effects include sexual dysfunction and mood changes.

Minoxidil (topical)

Vasodilator that prolongs the anagen growth phase. Strong RCT evidence. Twice-daily foam indefinitely. Published side effects include scalp irritation and tachycardia.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Growth factors drawn from your own blood. Moderate evidence, 12+ clinical trials reviewed. 3 to 6 sessions, then maintenance. Minor side effects from the blood draw and scalp injections.

Hair Transplant (FUE / FUT)

Surgical relocation of your own follicles. Strong evidence, permanent results for the transplanted hair. One-off surgery. Surgical risks include infection, scarring, and necrosis.

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Red light therapy shown in RCTs to slow loss and encourage regrowth in male pattern baldness. Non-invasive. Often used as an adjunct inside broader protocols, including Calecim.

Calecim Advanced Hair System

Growth factors and exosomes from mesenchymal stem cells, delivered via microneedling. Evidence currently limited to case-report-level data (not for male pattern baldness specifically). Non-hormonal, drug-free, non-invasive. No published systemic side effects.

Your Calecim Hair Protocol at Nexus

A straightforward, no-pressure process from consultation to month-6 review. Designed around you, not a fixed package.

01

Consultation

Dr Samantha assesses your hair loss stage, scalp condition, and prior treatments. She tells you directly if you are not a candidate for the Calecim protocol.

02

Session

Each session is a three-step sequence: microneedling on the scalp, PTT-6 growth factor serum application, and red light therapy. Sessions every two weeks in the intensive phase.

03

Review

At month 6, an honest review with Dr Sam. If the protocol is working, we discuss tapered maintenance. If not, we discuss alternatives, including referral where appropriate.

Why Choose Nexus Aesthetic

01

Doctor-Led, Not Technician-Led

Dr Samantha Tay delivers every session herself. The assessment, the needling depth, the serum concentration, and the protocol adjustments are medical decisions.

02

Drug-Free, Non-Hormonal Protocol

No daily pill, no systemic hormone blocker, no prescription foam. The protocol relies on growth factors and mechanical delivery, not pharmaceutical intervention.

03

Honest Candidacy Assessment

Not every case is suitable for Calecim. Dr Sam tells you at consultation if the protocol is unlikely to help your stage of hair loss, and what alternatives make more sense.

04

Consultation, Not Sales Pitch

A 30-minute conversation with Dr Sam. You leave with a clear number and a protocol only if both sides agree it fits. The decision is always yours.

05

Structured 6-Month Review

At month 6, an honest review. The protocol either works for your case or it does not. If it does not, Dr Sam is comfortable telling you and recommending alternatives.

06

Protocol Built Around You

Your hair loss stage, scalp condition, prior treatments, and willingness to commit determine the session cadence, not a fixed package.

Calecim May Fit You If...

  • You have stopped finasteride because of side effects and want a non-hormonal option
  • You refuse finasteride or dutasteride and want a drug-free protocol
  • You have tried minoxidil and found the daily commitment or scalp irritation unsustainable
  • You are in early to middle stages of thinning and want to support what is still there
  • You want a non-surgical path before considering a hair transplant
  • You prefer doctor-led assessment and treatment over technician delivery

Calecim May Not Fit You If...

  • You are fully bald in the target area and expect follicles to regenerate where there are none
  • You are expecting guaranteed regrowth on a fixed timeline
  • You have an active scalp infection, open wounds, or an untreated skin condition
  • You are unable to commit to the 10 to 12 session programme across 6 months
  • You are not ready for a medical assessment before starting

An honest note on what Calecim is and is not.

Calecim is a regenerative cosmeceutical, not a pharmaceutical drug approved for the treatment of male pattern baldness. Peer-reviewed evidence for Calecim specifically is currently limited to case-report-level data for other forms of hair loss (telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia). Large randomised controlled trials for male pattern baldness have not yet been published.

Finasteride and minoxidil remain the treatments with the most RCT evidence for male pattern hair loss. Hair transplantation remains the evidence-based choice for late-stage baldness. Calecim is positioned as a doctor-led, non-hormonal, non-surgical option for men who have stopped, refused, or never started those medications.

We state this clearly because it is the honest position, and because Singapore HCSA advertising rules require it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Calecim regrow hair for male pattern baldness?
We are careful with this answer. The mechanism (VEGF, FGF, PDGF signalling and anti-inflammatory exosomes) is documented in peer-reviewed literature for the hair growth cycle generally. Specifically for Calecim in male pattern baldness, large randomised trials have not yet been published. Peer-reviewed case reports for Calecim exist for telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia, not male pattern baldness. Finasteride and minoxidil remain the treatments with the most RCT evidence for male pattern hair loss.
Why would I choose this over finasteride?
Most men who choose Calecim at Nexus have either had side effects on finasteride or refuse to start it. Finasteride blocks DHT systemically. Calecim is non-hormonal and drug-free. Different tool, different trade-offs. This page is not a claim that Calecim replaces finasteride on effectiveness.
Is it safe?
Published case reports and preclinical data report a favourable tolerability profile. In-vitro studies show the serum is non-toxic to human skin fibroblasts. As with any scalp procedure, mild redness and transient sensitivity post-microneedling are possible. Your safety profile is assessed individually at consultation.
Am I a candidate?
Dr Sam assesses this at consultation. Generally, men in the early-to-middle stages of hair thinning with visible hair still present respond better than fully bald areas. If you are beyond a certain stage, she will be direct and recommend a hair transplant consultation instead.
How many sessions and how much does it cost?
Intensive phase is 6 sessions over 3 months, then a tapered maintenance phase. Total programme is typically 10 to 12 sessions. From S$299 per session. Full programme cost depends on your protocol and is reviewed at consultation. Terms and conditions apply.
Will I have to do this forever?
No. The intensive phase is 3 months, after which sessions taper. Unlike finasteride or minoxidil where stopping reverses gains, Calecim is a structured protocol, not a permanent prescription.
Can women do this too?
Yes. The protocol has been applied for postpartum hair loss, menopausal hair changes, and female-pattern hair loss. This page is written for men because that is the majority of our hair loss enquiries. Women are welcome and will be assessed individually at consultation.
